The Emeryville Center of Community Life (ECCL), a multi-year, joint project between the City of Emeryville and the Emery Unified School District, is the community’s vision of a unique and special community center; a place where schools, community services, arts and recreation programs will be integrated to serve the entire Emeryville community.
Successful integration and program development between the City of Emeryville Department of Community Services and Emery Unified School District required enhanced understanding, communication, and identification of common ground between disparate staff groups. Ongoing staff workshops were critical to ensuring staff feedback and insights informed the development of critical success factors and overall design direction.
As a member of the MKThink team, Alesha co-facilitated numerous stakeholder workshops yielding improved clarity, enhanced relationships and a shared vision for the future. The resulting design direction is anchored by critical success factors across partnerships, community engagement, wellness, sustainability, and equity. Upon final completion, the $96 million ECCL complex will include approximately 160,000 sf of new space plus an additional 18,000 sf of renovation – to be shared by all stakeholders. Replacing an existing facility, the new structure will encompass a school, community center, provision of social services, multi-use sports fields and playgrounds as well as community courtyard, paths and plazas. Incorporating a range of sustainable design features and programs in health, wellness, art and more, the ECCL will embody the heart of the diverse and vibrant city of Emeryville.*
